Toad-Mouthed Pouch

The model is of low-intermediate complexity and takes around 20 minutes to fold from a 15 x 15 cm (6 x 6 in) square.

PROS
• The model is highly efficient, maximizing paper use with an area equal to one-third of the starting square. This makes it difficult to find a better area ratio for a flat and closed origami container.
• The model is adaptable to other formats. The same steps can be followed on an A4 or letter-size sheet, resulting in a longer pouch.
• The model's user-friendly design means no unfolding or refolding is necessary to open, close, or lock it. To operate, simply pull the edge of the bottom layer until it curves into an opening, then push it flat afterward to close it again.
• The pouch is appropriate for non-origamists. Its usability was tested by 20 different people with little experience in origami; 18 of them discovered on their own how to use the pouch as intended.
• The pouch is secure. I've tested the container by filling it with pistachio shells, placing it upside down, and shaking it with force. None of the shells fell out. It also held up during real-world situations, keeping its contents from spilling into any bag it was carried in.
• The pouch is completely flat when empty, allowing it to be discreetly carried around until needed.

CONS
• The pouch’s capacity is its main limitation. When folded from the required paper size (15 x 15 cm), it can only securely hold the shells of about 18 pistachios, which means at least two pouches are needed for the smallest bag of nuts (30 pistachios). However, this drawback is more significant with most other flat and closed origami containers. For it to seal securely, the contents must also be spread evenly to prevent spilling.
• While easy to operate, the model has a few usability challenges. Some new users may initially be confused by the pleats on the side and mistake them for the opening. Additionally, the folded segments are accessible, so there is a risk that a non-origamist could accidentally unfold it and not be able to refold it afterward. The paper also tends to wrinkle with repeated use.
• The folding process is not easy enough for a beginner to fold the pouch satisfactorily, and due to its limited opening, the pouch is best suited for small items and cannot hold larger objects like cards or letters.
