Peacock, designed by Isao Honda

Over three years ago, I began considering building what I called "a retirement career", based on what I learned from origami as a child. I thought of folding my favorite figurative models and giving them to children whom I considered to have some potential to develop a passion for origami. I felt I had learned enough after most of these children spontaneously said to me, "Thank you. I'll put it in my room."
The model I folded more for these purposes was this peacock that appears in the green Sakura Origami book, published in 1959 by the Asahi Origami Club. I made a slight variation on the feathers and still consider it one of my favorites.
