$Flower

The first model I could think of to catch someone's attention is the Flapping Bird, when the flapping motion is shown. Here however, I decided to go for another model: a flower with stem, folded from a single rectangle. Stephen Hecht designed the 6-petal version, at some point, someone must have adapted the 8-petal bloom from one of Herman Lau's designs. The bloom alone is also depicted on the yellow Tant paper pack, so it may be a traditional design.

There are many variations of this model available, e.g. on Seth Friedman's YouTube channel there are tutorials for a rose or lily with stem. I designed a variant with leaves and pot. Instructions can be found on my Flickr page. Jo Nakashima has a nice tutorial of the original flower on his YouTube channel.
