Curlicues

The first tessellation I designed was Sunken Diamonds (rather by accident, as I was trying to reverse engineer a different pattern and ended up somewhere completely different) in January 2025. I revisited it thinking about trying to turn it into a simpler molecule to be used as a pendant or charm (for jewelry) and discovered the larger pleated squares could also be twisted! I tried a few rotation orientations and found an alternating setup where all the folds lie flat (there's a version where the flaps stand up for an interesting 3D effect too). This is my first original tessellation design in 2026, inspiried by my first ever tessellation design (from 2025).
