Modular origami joystick gimbal
This two-axis gimbal mechanism acts like a joystick. I constructed it in 2018 using my modular origami construction system ZEBRA (see link to my 7OSME paper below). Folded from 67 uncut A4 sheets and assembled without glue.
The design uses four instances of the ZEBRA AKX1 compliant pivot joints, each folded from a single A4 sheet. A compliant mechanism exploits the flexibility of its construction materials to enable motion. It does not contain any hinges or gears.
Total Length x width x height: 55 cm x 37 cm x 37 cm
