Yoshihide Momotani

Yoshihide Momotani (1928 – 2016) was a prominent Japanese origami creator, a Doctor of Science, and a professor at the Faculty of Integrated Arts and Sciences at Osaka Prefecture University. He was deeply beloved by his students as a playful and warm-hearted professor who would gift his original origami models to those who had just finished their final exams.

Throughout his life, Momotani continuously shared highly original origami designs, unrestrained by conventional rules or limitations. He actively engaged in international exchange through origami, building strong connections with folders from all over the world. A truly prolific creator, he authored around 90 books during his lifetime.

Beyond his professional career as a scientist and pharmacist, he was actively involved in various origami organizations worldwide, including the Nippon Origami Association (NOA) and the British Origami Society (BOS).

His extraordinary talent was recognized with prestigious international honors, notably the Grand Prix at the Bicentennial of the French Revolution International Origami Competition and 1st Place at the Alice in Wonderland 100th Anniversary Competition in the UK, as well as numerous other awards in Japan
