Scutigera coleoptrata

The house centipede has 15 pairs of very long legs with two very long antennae. Packing all of these flaps while keeping them very thin poses a large challenge. I designed this model to showcase my large sheets of hand made paper that are similar in thickness to a single sheet of tissue paper. The box pleat design uses a grid of 88 and the top priority was putting the 4 longest flaps (antennae and back legs) in the corners, and several of the other long legs on the edges to keep them thin. This design also showcases the software tool BP studio, and countless configurations were created to find the optimal grid size and Pythagorean stretches. There is minimal wasted paper, with only a few locations absorbed into the rivers between the leg flaps.
