Weightlifter

This model, the weightlifter has a technical, yet satisfying fold process. To achieve the base for the model, the un-sink (an exciting and underused technique in origami) is used to bring up 2 flaps in the middle of the model. Folding the weights on the side of the model are fun, their sequences are well referenced and swift to complete. Making the arm is a learning point for 2D colour change origami, with its narrow line cleanly produced (Steps 35-38) The squash fold to manipulate the arm at a 90 degree turn (Step 44) seems daunting, but when attempted, falls together in a surprisingly satisfying way. At last, the model reveals itself with an elementary mountain-fold colour change (Step 47) , turning the seam, often an enemy for 2D colour change designers, into the most integral part of this model - the bar which the weightlifter holds onto.

Overall, I feel that this sequence is not only a fun and lively effort to produce a model, but also a lesson into the basics of 2D colour change design, encouraging the folder to experiment with un-sinked bases and colour change techniques for both broad and thin strokes
