The Echo of the Wind

This work presents a rare metarecursive fractal flagstone structure, representing the culmination of my research into the integration of flagstone-style recursion and fractalized structural generation.

While preserving the defining characteristics of flagstone-style planar subdivision, this structure introduces a fractal recursive mechanism that allows the system to continuously embed itself within its own geometry, producing a multi-level, self-similar spiral subdivision.

The primary design challenge arises from the fact that, when the structure is embedded within itself, the interfaces between parent and child structures inevitably generate numerous non-standard geometric flagstone units. Maintaining a coherent and consistent flagstone-style configuration while accurately positioning these irregular units constitutes the most technically demanding aspect of the design process.

The non-fractalized predecessor of this structure is my 2024 work The Shape of the Wind, which consists of a single, unbranched flagstone recursive configuration and serves as the foundational model for the present metarecursive fractal development. The structural differences and evolutionary relationship between the two can be directly observed in the final image.
